Privacy policy

shellmap is a static reference site. We don't require accounts, we don't collect personal information directly, and we don't run analytics scripts. This page documents the small amount of browser storage we do use and which third parties touch your traffic.

What we store on your device

  • Theme preference. When you toggle dark mode, your choice is saved to your browser's localStorage under the key theme. This value never leaves your device and is used only to render the site in your preferred theme on subsequent visits. Clear your browser storage to remove it.
  • Translator URL state. When you use the live translator, the From shell, To shell, and pasted command may be reflected in the URL query string so the page is shareable. The translation itself runs entirely in your browser — your command is never sent to our server.

Third-party services

  • Cloudflare.shellmap is served through Cloudflare, which sees the IP address and request headers of every visitor in order to deliver the site, mitigate abuse, and serve cached pages from a nearby edge. See Cloudflare's own privacy policy for details on what they retain.
  • Google Fonts. The site uses fonts loaded via next/font, which self-hosts the font files at build time — no runtime request to Google for typeface assets.
  • Advertising.shellmap may, in the future, display advertising served by Google AdSense or a similar network. When that happens we will update this page with a clear disclosure, link to the ad network's policies, and the standard Google ad personalization controls. As of this revision, no ads or ad cookies are active.

Children

shellmap is a developer-tools reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We'll revise this policy in place whenever data practices change. The dateModifiedfield in the page schema (also visible via your browser's view-source) records the date of the most recent revision.
